Please accept my condolences on the death of your father.
Unfortunately, I never met John and knew him only through phone and email
exchanges we had on the technical subject of winch launching. This is a
subject on which he was an extraordinarly knowledgeable and an exceptionally
lucid writer. He was very helpful to me with my analysis which I hope to
publish later this year in OSTIV's journal Technical Soaring. In it I'll
acknowledge his contribution on aerodynamic drag in particular.
Undoubtedly, there will be many tributes to him from the gliding world and
Boland Forest Gliding Club in particular. I have passed this sad news to
them.
I was fortunate to have known him and shall miss him.
